Health Interventions
- Our health interventions focus on reducing malnutrition and improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes, particularly for adolescents and youth. By integrating key messages on nutrition, Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses (IMCI), and SRHR, we equip communities with the knowledge to prevent disease, make informed health choices, and adopt healthy behaviours. These efforts contribute to early detection and management of childhood illnesses, promote family planning, and support improved maternal and child health.
Gender Mainstreaming
IMI Kenya employs a comprehensive, gender-responsive approach that strengthens couples’ decision-making and promotes positive masculinities in ASAL (Arid and Semi-Arid Lands) communities. Through gender mainstreaming and social and behaviour change (SBC) strategies, including male engagement forums, we actively challenge harmful gender norms, increase men's involvement in maternal and child health, and elevate women’s voices in household and community-level governance..
Community Engagement
Through the broader One Health framework (integrating human, livestock, and environmental health), IMI Kenya works closely with ILRI, vet services, and the County One Health Unit.
To train community disease reporters, health volunteers, and environmental scouts (e.g., in Sept 2023) to raise awareness of zoonotic diseases like Rift Valley Fever.
Support policy tools like the Isiolo Rangelands Management Bill, bolstering community involvement in rangeland conservation
Governance and Accountability.
IMI Kenya’s approach to governance and health systems strengthening is comprehensive and multilevel.
Promote inclusive governance, digital justice, and grassroots empowerment in underrepresented regions like northern Kenya.
Support citizens and civil society to monitor public service delivery, influence budgets, and hold leaders accountable using digital feedback mechanisms.
Equip youth, women, and community-based organizations with digital, media, and civic literacy skills to engage effectively in the digital space.
Risk Communication
IMI Kenya responds to risk communication in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) communities like Isiolo through a community-driven, context-sensitive, and multi-channel approach that ensures timely, trusted, and actionable information reaches vulnerable populations before, during, and after emergencies.
